I had similar problems with a M38A1C once. I suspected a crack in a spark
plug but new plugs didn't solve the problem. Turned out it was hairline
cracks in the dist. cap. A new cap cured it. I had initially ruled out
the cap because it looked clean but cracks can be invisible to the naked
eye. Is your dist. cap the original? If so that makes it a minimum of
probably 30yr. old.
