Another simple thing to check is to make sure that the battery clamps are
nice and tight.
If, when you get it to start on the second time you hear a sizzle sound then
this is your problem. The battery clamps, when loose will arc between the
bolt and the lead clamp. This vaporizes some of the lead each time. Each
time the arc gap grows a little wider. When the arc gets big enough it can
catch stuff on fire!
