Torque x speed = power. With gears you can increase the torque and reduce the
speed, or conversely. Your Toyota is geared for higher speed, lower torque. In
fact, that's the reason for a gearbox. It's to match the torque/speed
characteristics of the engine to the load. You can move a huge load that
requires high torque with a small, low power motor. It just takes a loooong
time.
