Several years ago in my business I had contact with a large trucking
company, they had been my customer when they had 4 trucks and remained my
customer when they had in excess of 400 trucks and more.
That said I had unrestricted access to their truck shop and watched when
they bought a machine to mix used engine oil with diesel, done to dispose of
the used oil.
Their normal engine service was supposed to be done before truck was fueled
so their would be room in fuel tanks for the several gallons of engine oil.
This machine pulled fuel out of tank mixed it with filtered engine oil and
pumped back into fuel tank. The mechanics said they had not noticed any
difference in engine problems and this device was sanctioned by engine
manufacture. They used Cummings engines in the vast majority of their
trucks.
I wonder if this was ever done in the military shops??
I have lost contact with this company following their purchase by a larger
trucking company and do not know if they still dispose of the used oil in
this manner. I do know that they used this device for a few years without
any problems.
