It is unusual to run out of adjustment for the distributor, unless someone
has had the oil pump out of the engine and not replaced it as per the TM. Has
it been removed?
A friend also found that his distributor intermediate drive shaft (the bit
that usually stays on top of the oil pump) was twisted. It can also be fitted
180 degrees out.
Are you certain that the igntion leads are in their correct rotational-firing
order in the distributor cap?? They could have been fitted one-step out of
order.
If they are fitted in their correct distributor cap towers, then set the
distributor so that you can get maximum adjustment either way, and re-install
the leads in different towers (one, maybe two steps round), so that the
firing order is correct.
