I'd go with at least 3/16 or 1/4" wall thickness pipe or tubing...or
it won't stop much if you bump something. Please note that if the
muffler shop bends it...they have only dies for exhaust type tubing...so
check with them before you purchase the heavier walled stuff. They might
not have the correct bending dies...this is only my opinion as I don't
have experience here. I did have a Blackhawk (hyd.) pipe bender and it
had pipe dies and if you tried to bend exhaust tubing...it would wrinkle
or colapse...and not something that you would want on the front of your
vehicle. The $100 bender listed in Harbor Freight should last thru a
bumper bending project...but only bend standard pipe in it...or you'll
have more wrinkles than a purple thumper. Stainless steel would look
nice...if you can't paint. Fred Martin
