David Doyle has an excellent article on the 4-color (MERDC) camo coloring
and patterns in the December issue of MVM.
I have looked into this for my own '68 deuce, which came from the USMC with
this camo scheme of the variety "Winter US and Europe-Verdant" (forest green
45%, field drab 45%, sand 5% and black 5%). However, earth yellow had been
substituted for the field drab. At least one reference (olive-drab.com)
explaines that the field drab was once in short supply and earth yellow was
often used as a substitut.
I have yet to find two references with the same basic pattern, they are all
a little different, some appear to have a lot more of the black than the 5%
specified. The TB 43-0147, shows a number of vehicles, all with different
basic patterns.
The 3-color CARC was supposed to replace the 4-color scheme in 1985
(according to another of David's articles on the subject, MVM April 2003),
but some vehicles apper not to have been repainted, giving you a lot of
choices as how to "properly" paint your truck...
Cheers,
Bjorn
