US WW2 armoured vehicles have hooks such as you are curious about.
They are
very plain and boring, being nothing more than a tapering piece of
roughly 3mm thick plated steel, roughly 3" long in the shape of a
letter "J". The curled part of the hook would be an additional 1 1/2"
at most with roughly a 1" radius ending with a tip of say 1/4 wide
which is heavily rounded.
The top of the "J" is about an inch wide. There always seems to be
2 mounting holes in the top of the "J", one above the other and about
3/16 diameter. Don't know the spacing, but it appears to be
standardised throughout all the US vehicles I have seen.
The edges of the steel weren't even arased to prevent the sharp
edges cutting through the cables. I round them off and then dip
them in liquid plastic.
If I had a digital camera I could take a pic for you with a ruler
alongside and you would have all the info you need. Perhaps another
list member could do so?
Regards
Doug
