I pulled the battery out of the old Atomic Energy Commision pick up today
to put some EDTA in and charge it. It was an older Sears Gold battery. It
said the cells could not be serviced, however I had seen that type of
warning 20+ years ago. At that time you could pull the cover and reinstall
it without difficulty.
This battery is different. When I get the top off I find a honeycomb
plastic sub-assembly under the cover. Some depressions open into battery
cells: some are solid. The problem is that there is no way which I can see
to properly secure the lid to the battery again. It looks like it was
glued in some fashion to the battery once the acid was added. There
certainly are no circular holes as with other batteries I've worked on.
Might this be a battery which truly can not be safely maintained?
Thanks for your time.
