Finally got my "new" '63 M37B1 running. It had sat
apparently 8 years outside, and the last 10 months
outside. Carb jigsaw puzzle/rebuild seems to have
worked ok.
However, it will only start with a pull. It starts
immediately, within a foot or so, but it will not
start with the starter. It runs pretty well, runs
out to 55 mph ok, and has decent power.
How fast should the starter turn the engine over.
The starter (24v) doesn't crank the engine over much
faster than my 6v '51 chevy 215. Should it?
Also, I've installed a 24v 4psi electric fuel pump
as a backup to the mechanical, and it will not
self-prime. Is this normal? It works fine if you
prime it first.
Is it common for the prime handle to be
broken/missing on the mechanical pump, and are they
available for replacement?
Lotsa work left, drivetrain is noisy, and brakes are
iffy, but at least running is encouraging! I'm sure
I had a sh**-eating grin on my face last night
driving it around town. :)
