I know you guys are trying to debate history, etc.

However if I was running a truck through a downtown Iraqi city, I would
certainly feel a lot safer being in an armored vehicle of some type rather
than an unarmored 5 ton or duece. Whether or not it would sustain a bomb
buried in the road or not is another matter.

Personally, if I were driving such a truck and I had access to some plate
steel and a cutting torch, you can bet that my truck would be carrying some
armor. And if a 50 cal gun was available, it would be mounted and ready.
I think a 1 inch plate mounted below the cab might also be a good idea! It
would certainly be a lot better than a thin sheet of 18 gauge steel. They
might get the first shot at me, but I'd be ready to respond if I were still
alive!
