I've got a question for some of the WWII
gear-heads out there. The M3 Stuart (in-fact all
the M3s and M5s) are listed as having 36mph as
the top speed. However, over the development of
the vehicles, weight increased quite a bit from
the original M3 model. How was this accomplished
with in the scope of the M3, M3A1 and M3A3?
Changes in final drive ratios?
Further, what is the real top speed of the M3A3?
Is it as listed in the Army's Catalog of
Ordnance? ie 36mph? Is that an accepted
specification that was optimistic or conservative?
thanks!
