Esteemed list members:
I have recently bought a 1968 Kaiser Jeep M35a2 from a local guy
that got it from a Letterkenny GL sale about 7 months ago. It has
bumper number remnants that look like front passenger side
"99CR" and front drivers side "ECS 333" . The last digit "3" may
possibly be an 8 but my first impression is 3. The back numbers
match. Can anyone supply any information on where this truck
was assigned from this number? It is painted 4 color MERDC
camo and needs a paint job. Pix are up at:
http://community.webshots.com/album/103353318fEwddb?68 for
your viewing enjoyment. The dark looking pix in the snow were
taken after we went four wheeling...... NO.... I mean 10 wheeling in
the foot of snow that we got Saturday. The paint looks darker
when wet with sleet and freezing rain. AAHHHH the look of non
directional tire tracks in the snow. SOOOOO comforting to see.
We cleaned it off and put it back in the barn to keep it happy. It is
an air shift W/W LD465 1-C and still needs some minor things
done to be trip dependable. It almost wasn't any fun as when the
rear wheels started spinning we switched in the front axle and the
truck took almost off like it was on dry ground. Very impressive
truck. American engineering at its finest. We came upon a friend
a few weeks ago with an 855 Case track loader that got into some
mucky woods ground and was stuck to the top of the tracks in
mud. He was waiting for a backhoe to come help and we went
home to get our 60 feet of one inch chain. We hooked the pintle
hook to the rear drawbar of the Case by way of the chain and after
a little wheel slipping and track spinning the loader slowly groaned
out of the mud. It helped that the deuce was on sort of solid
ground but was a testament of the pulling abilities of these
amazing trucks. Now when we pull up in the deuce and see our
non-mil buddies we say " We're from the government and we're
here to help you" . This usually generates lots of smiles and
chuckles. Anybody got a good 60 amp alternator to fit it? Mine
isn't putting anything out. Can't wait to go to Churchville. Five
months and counting. Again if anyone can help with the 99CR
ECS 333 number it would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave Reed
