Hi!
It has a passing gear if you hit it just right. If not and bogging down, it
could be the trans or modulator on the injection pump that tell trans what
to do. If it bad and you keep driving it, it ruins the trans. My modulator
was bypassed by DRMO to move the truck and burnt the trans. Up. Got rebuilt
one from John Woods in Florida $400 FOB.

I've found that my newly acquired (and first diesel) seems to have more
get-up if I back-off on the throttle, as opposed to pedal-to-the-metal. If
it were a carbureted gas engine, I'd say it was lean. I haven't noticed any
smoke from tailpipe. Is this a normal trait of diesels? or is my pump
putting out too much fuel? Is the pump adjustable, or do I just have to
learn to feather the gas? On some days I seem to get 25mpg, some days not so
good, 17-20.
