Looks like a standard -8 turbine generator for powering field equipment. We
had two -8's mounted on an M-720 and used 16 (32 turbines) of them in
parallel to provide enough 400 Hz for the TPS43E radar. We used them from
the early 70's through the mid 1990's. I was once told that they were the
same turbines used on the Jolly Green Giant, but I cannot confirm that.
They are very loud and produce an ear-splitting high frequency whine. The
heat signature was so great that they were visible in the IR range from an
aircraft over 100 miles away. They were replaced by the M200 mounted TQG's
in the 90's.
