Re: [MV] How to make your own lockouts for the M35 Rockwell 240 axle

Here are a few rhetorical questions:

If you take off the drive flanges, and drive around without them, does
anything need to support the spline? No.

Does anything come flying off the truck? No.

Is any damage done to any component? No.

The drive flanges are just that: drive & flanges. They do nothing more than
transfer rotary motion from a totally-supported and lubricated axle to the
wheel. (and keep out the mud) I cannot understand this obsession with
support, bushings, bearings, lubrication, etc etc etc.

Yes, running around with no flange looks like hell, and dirt can get on the
splines and in the works, but a coffee can would be just as good a cover.

Thank you for amplifying what I have been saying all along: I saw a
personal need for these hubs, took the time and expense to develop them
($5000 up-front costs) and have shared the product with those who want to
lock out and lock in easily. There are clever people, and I salute their
Yankee ingenuity, who can "sort of" duplicate the lockout hubs that are
commercially available. But it costs money to do it wrong, and it costs
money to do it right. Personally, I prefer to turn a handle than to sit in
the mud with the alligators, turning a wrench. but that's just me, I
suppose.
