Disconnect the Field wire from the gen

With a short piece of wire, connect the gen Field trmainal to Ground
while monitering the Armature voltage. If it doesn't go to 14+ volts,
try connecting the Field lead to the Armature lead and again observe
the voltage at the Armature. If you do not get 14+ volts with either
of these tests, the generator is the problem.

Suggestion: if it is the generator, replace with a mid 70's GM
alternator....
