I'm going to guess a misidentification or misprint (i.e. 1944 instead of
1954). I've seen "1954 Studebaker Weasels" before, even though the last
one made was in1945. I talked with the seller and he didn't have a clue
:-) "Someone told me it was 1954" was his answer.
Although the military's "M" numbering is confusing, they generally don't
reassign numbers to items of the same type. For example, there might be
several items with the same M number (M1 Abrams, M1 Garand, etc.), but
they are different classes.
I could be wrong, of course :-)
