Hi Everette and List ,
Your reference to the spinning of BIG gun
barrels is interesting . My understanding was that in making BIG gun barrels
the inability of technology at the time to produce Guaranteed high quality ,
flaw free castings resulted in an inner liner then spun with tested high
tensile steel wire to the required thickness in layers .
The winding of these layers to maintain alignment must have involved some
special technique .
