Hi!
2 things-
1. Have you replaced fuel pressure switch? Will cause major starting
problems if bad. You can burn out starter trying to get started- I speak
from experience. $20 fix
2. I installed 12v electric fuel pump and bypassed mechanical one. I wired
it to block so that when I turn key to on, it starts priming system. Also,
primes filter with no cranking.
I have never had a problem since. Replace fuel pressure switch if not
already done.
Also are glow plugs lighting?

Subject: [MV] CUCV Starting Problems
I have finally hit the point of trying to start my "new" CUCV.
I put fuel in the tank and tried to prime it. Couldn't get it to prime
with my vacume pump. Tried sucking on the hose, still wouldn't prime.
So I filled a small canister with diesel and hooked it to the little
nipple at the top of the injector pump which I believe is the inlet.
Two good batteries wired correctly. No glow plug relay. Turned the
key, idiot lights come on. Fuel pushes out of my pressurized tank and
into the injector pump (see it moving through a clear hose). Crank
engine, engine turns over fine. No start.
Tried glowing the plugs by hand (aided by a screwdriver across the glow
plug relay). Truck still does not start. Pulled a return hose off of
one of the injectors, fuel pours out. Injectors are getting fuel then.
Truck still does not want to start or prime (even with the pink wire
pulled off of the injector pump).
Any ideas? I even shot a can of WD-40 down the manifold to use as a
starter fluid, the truck just laughed at that while it cranked.
Help..... Please?
Chris
