A friend pulled my pump and installed it for me after rebuild. I remember
he had to line up timing marks on the pump with marks on the engine. I
believe timing needs to be set for the vehicle you're putting it into.
If you have a fax, I may be able to send those pages from the TM9 to you. I
don't have a scanner.

I do not have a TM9, however, I carefully marked everything before
removing the old pump, and installed the new one exactly in the same
position as the old one, why would the timing be off (more than a few
degrees)? Am I missing something here? (unfortunately, it wouldn't be
the first time!! :-)) I have a civilian manual on the Blazer, that
leaves alot to be desired, and just borrowed a civilian (Haynes) manual
on diesel engines.
The civilian book talks about bringing the engine to TDC on #1 cylinder,
and aligning the 2 timing marks on the pump and cam pulleys. But I
didn't see the need to do this, as I removed and replaced everything
exactly as it was, and had the batteries disconnected so I wouldn't
forget, and turn over the engine, and screw up the timing (yeah, I've
done that before...DOH!!). So unless I don't understand something here,
regarding timing, I see no reason why she doesn't run.
Any insight would be appreciated. - Tom
