Mark,
My '66 M35A2 did that when in 6 wheel drive, always.
Also occured with these problems:
Loose wheel lugs
worn tie rod ends
uneven tire pressures
low tire inflation pressure
cold tires
cupped tire tread
a bent wheel
tires out of balance
