I remember those. According to AR 670-1:
The shirt is worn with the collar open and lying flat. It forms a 'V' with
the tip of the collar and the top of the button portion when laid flat.
Enlisted men, the US brass is worn 1 inch above the notch centered on the
right collar with the centerline of the insignia bisecting the notch and
parallel; to the inside edge of the collar. The brass is block letters US of
gold colored metal, 7/16 inches high, each letter followed by a period, all
placed on a 1 inch disc of gold colored metal.
