Hi All ,
Bruce is right BUT there`s more to it !
For normal brake pipes there are two flares , CONCAVE ,or double flare and
the simple CONVEX single flare ! To add to the complexity there is also
the metric flares , increasingly used in vehicles ! These use the same pipe
but the form of the convex flare is different . The back of the flare is
square to the pipe , not angled as with an imperial !
A point to watch when making a flare is to be ABSOLUTELY SURE the pipe has
not slipped back as the flare is formed , somethimes making a flare , BUT
TOO SMALL !
Great care must also be exercised in getting the right type and thread of
fittings for your application !
For those in the US who run British MVs there are some that may use a BSF
thread , I may be able to help you get these if you have trouble !
DON`T FORGET YOUR NUTS ----BOTH OF THEM ----put them on the pipe, the right
ways round , BEFORE you make the second flare !
Be careful Noel
