The M60A3 MBT at around 120,000 lbs has lower contact pressure in psi than a
deuce. This can be easily seen when you see an M1A2 for instance easily
climb a sand dune while a deuce or FMTV gets stuck. Of course the area the
pad sits on has to be able to stand 60-65 tons of weight over time without
settling.

to put an M60A3 on display, on a concrete pad. The contractor hired to do
the job wanted to know how thick he would have to make the pad, in order for
it to be strong enough to support the weight of the tank. The Command
Historian and I looked the information up in the TM for that tank. I haven't
actually measured the tracks on the tank, and done the math, but the tracks
are quite wide and very long, so it isn't hard to believe that they spread
the weight out as much as they do.

state highway department asked them to stop putting them in parades because
of fear of what the weight would do to underground stuff in road
-- water, gas, etc. but was BS according to fellows who work for city.
department was not smart enough to measure actual pressure per square inch,
my undeducted guess is that they would be less per square inch than a loaded
truck / trailer.
