Re: Unwashed biodiesel concern

Well, I guess it will eventually evaporate, but it serves a couple of
purposes in the fuel, it keeps any residual glycerin in suspension and of
course any water. Both glycerine and water can thus be burned in the
combustion process without harm.
Methanol is never 100%, there is always a tiny percentage of water with it.
It's the free water that may cause harm to the injectors as the droplets
would turn to steam with explosive force.
Methanol also increases the energy content of the fuel.
From what I have read, I'd rather keep the methanol in the fuel.
Jim Hossack on the list, pointed out that unwashed biodiesel being caustic
may also not support bacterial growth.
In the book "From the fryer to the fuel tank", it's noted that unwashed BD
can be used without harm.
I have been using it for over a year now and will stick with it, just
concerned about the fuel temp as noted earlier.
