I think I know the film you're thinking of, but the name escapes me, probably because I got stuck on the wrong answer.
"The Gods Must Be Crazy" had a scene where the park ranger was using his Land Rover's winch attached to a tree as a jack. He left it running, and it went straight up the tree.
It'll possibly come to me as soon as I click Send, or in a few hours after I've had a chance to dream about it.
