Oooh, sounds like no end of problems in store. Army trucks hate=20
diesels, an average newish unit would give you a top speed of 35-40 mph=20
unless you changed the diffs, (not recommended) A friend has a C15=20
4x4 with a Bedford 6cyl petrol (called 28hp 'cause that is cast on the=20
block) and it runs very nicely and slots straight in. I do agree that=20
the original "stovebolt 6" isn't much fun, mostly due to the lube=20
system. If they are more obtainable where you are (where are you=20
anyway?) a GMC 270 ex-DUKW or 6x6 should fit, give reasonable mileage,=20
and excellent performance, especially in a 4x2. My US Chev 4x4 1 1/2=20
ton had a DUKW engine fitted and the only problem was holding it back. =20
If you are set on a diesel try an early small Bedford unit.=20
=20
As to rarity I dont know of anyone with a 4x2, but 4x4s are really=20
common here.=20
