I have two carbs for it (both are Zenith). The older of the two has the
mixture adjustment screws, so I've concentrated on it. I cleaned it and it ran
fine for a couple days, then started having trouble when accelerating. I lived
with it for a week or two and then the idle started to go.
So, I bought a carb rebuild kit and took the carb apart and soaked it in
solvent for 2 days. I cleaned everything out with compressed air and a
pipe-cleaner. I reassembled it with the rebuild kit components, and put it
back on the jeep. It ran fine. I enjoyed two days of trouble free driving
(about 25 miles) then the acceleration problem started again.
When I go to accelerate the thing starts out OK, but then (about when I reach
the middle of the intersection) it lags badly, then it seems to get a second
wind and I'm on my way. I find a lot of choke will help me through the rough
spot, but it's annoying as hell.
I know it's classic accelerator pump symptoms, but I can't find anything wrong
with the diaphragm or jetting. I run two in-line fuel filters, so I'm not
loading it up with something from the bottom of the fuel tank... Any ideas?
Thanks,
Chris Davis
