You are, of course, 100% correct and I apologize for omitting that fact in
my reply. I assummed that bit of knowledge on the part of the reader and
shouldn't have (it's a pet peave of mine and I'm as guilty as anyone).
Besides, you know the old saying about assumming anything. I also forgot to
point out that these materials also eat most filler materials (Bondo) unless
handled properly and the filler is high quality and sealed before the epoxy
is applied. Sealing the old paint in a similar fashion could work to avoid
the expense of stripping or sandblasting to get to bare metal but I've never
tried it. We sandblast and use Ditzler DP-90 epoxy primer which provides an
excellent result on most MV parts and accepts any top coat easily.
