I was working on my M135 found an interesting marking I don't know how to
interpret. On the passenger door, lower center, there is stenciled wording
that reads: COST 7481, in 3/4 inch lettering. It appears to be on the
first layer of OD paint. Why might this be on there? Also, I can find no
evidence that stars were ever on this vehicle. Does amyone know why the
Army, in the early to mid 50's would not place the M-Series stars on this
truck? I know it's an early M135, by virtue of the wiring harness
particulars, slave recepticle, tailgate with flop-out step, and various
engine components, all of which were only on the early 135's. If this was
one of the first models given to the Army for evaluation, would the stars
not be painted on? Would this also explain the "COST" stencil? Any
thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in Advance,
Sean
