Just a thought on gear oil in wheel bearings (in place of grease). If the
truck sits for extended periods of time the oil (even 90 wt) will drain off
the bearing and allow damage until circulated. The problem of sealing is self-
evident. An alternative is (not reccomended by me mind you) the use of "STP
Oil Treatment" on the bearings. A fellow modified racer has used it for years
on his car and never lost a bearing (very high stress environment). We're too
old fashioned to try it and still pack grease porperly. This very sticky
lubricant type substance "clings" to whatever it touches (like your hands)
and does not drain off, spin off, etc.. One thing we do use it for is engine
assembly lube. Provides the same properties as the tiny expensive bottles of
cam and bearing lube but there's enough to coat everyting going into the
motor and we know it will still be where we put it if the engine doesn't get
started for a while yet flows easy to allow prelube to be quick and painless.
