All the Ford-based generators I have seen are based on the GP engine (or
Ford 9N tractor). Has anyone seen generator units based on GPW
engines?

Thanks for the input Todd. Actually I have seen a powergenerator that had a
GPW type engine (Made by Ford, but not numbered) but I do not recall the
model #s. In any case I was only using power generators as an example for
simplicity's sake.

Otherwise, your description is pretty much accurate except for:

I do not believe this to be the case. Willys-Overland attached the frame
and body tags. On a MB, the frame and body tag serial numbers should
match. It is the engine number that never matches. American Central
only stamped the body number on the left toe board gusset that appears
was only used for their accounting purposes.. >>

That is basically what I was saying but I did not include enough detail to
make it clear. The frames were brought in from AO Smith and a tag was stamped
with that frame' s MB number at the time it arrived. (I assume they went
through some sort of inspection process first) At that same time a data plate
was stamped with the same number as the frame # and stayed with it untill it
was mated with the body a short while later.
