Just got back from the annual MVPA Convention in Memphis this weekend. My
buddy and I went down there Thursday night. Friday morning we got up and
walked down the Cook Convention Center around 9am where the event was being
held. A couple dozen MVs were on display: many smaller Jeeps (Mutts,
MBs/GPAs, M38s); a few M-37s & M-715s; a WC-63 (Dodge 6x6); a few big trucks
(a couple 2-1/2 & 5-tons (M-35s/Reos), a 5-ton wrecker, a 5-ton bridge truck);
and last but not least some armor (M-20, British Scorpion tank & a Ferret,
another big APC that I can't remember the model #).
Lots of swap meet vendors from all over the country. Every small part you
could imagine for anything & many obscure parts. My buddy & I spent a few
hundred of dollars there. Also got to personally meet some of the MV parts
guys from all over the country.
Took a break Friday night, went down the Beale Street, ate dinner and hung out
at B.B. Kings Blues Club. Several hours later walked along Beale and watched
the street performers. Went back the hotel around 1am.
Got up at 8am Saturday morning, headed over to Graceland -- did the complete
tourist thing. Went back to check out of the hotel at Noon, then headed back
to the Convention to get a few parts we missed the day before.
Around 2pm headed over the Memphis Equipment (about 15 minutes away).
UNBELIEVABLE! Hundreds of 2-1/2 & 5-ton trucks everywhere. A few smaller
trucks, too (mostly Jeeps, although there were a few M-37s and M-715s). They
also had tables set out with "show specials." We ended up spending a few
hundred more dollars here and we traded in a few M-715 parts we brought with
us.
Went back to the show one last time around 5pm. Everyone had begun packing up,
the trucks were pulling out and people were starting to leave. After saying a
few goodbyes we headed out, ate lunch/dinner and drove home in our well-loaded
F-150.
Looking forward to next year's convention -- only next time I hope to be
driving my M-715!
