Russell,

<< I'm also interested in the "X" in XM211. I have always thought that X
meant experimental or prototype in this context. Does anyone know if
this is or isn't the case?>>

The X in XM211 does indeed stand for experimental. However, there were a LOT
of XM211's built. The MVPA Directory lists 63 M211's and 36 XM211's. The
XM211's range in date from 1952 to 1955. IMHO, it isn't worth any more than
an M211.

<< Any other info would also be appreciated, general strengths, weaknesses,
what to watch out for ,etc. >>

General weaknesses...The M211's have automatic transmissions. My
understanding is that this is one of the earliest automatic transmissions,
and isn't anything to crow about. Collectors generally prefer standard
transmissions over automatic.

However, having said all of that, if you can get the vehicle for cheap and
put a good engine/tranny in it, it would probably make an awesome truck for
hauling loads in Colorado.

P.S. - Also, I'm sure you're aware that in Colorado, if you get the antique
license plates for the truck, it won't have to pass inspection.
