I can't see any reason that an ignition switch normally used on a 12 volt
vehicle would be a problem -- the amount of current pulled thru the switch
would generally be twice as much in a 12 volt system as in a 24 volt system,
so you'd have some extra capacity. In other words, everything else equal the
contacts in a12 volt switch may actually be more heavy-duty. On the other
hand, I'm sure there is a great variation between manufacturers so some may
be wimpier than others.

The insulating material of the switch body will easily withstand 24 volts --
it probably wouldn't break down unless the voltage was ten times higher or
more.

You may find it easier to install a more generic industrial on/off key switch
on the dash of an M series vehicle than a civilian auto ignition switch. The
industrial switches are made to mount in a plain hole in a metal plate. You
can probably find one to fit the size of your existing switch hole for a
reversible modification.
