Hi List,
Recently my father acquired some papers found in a uniform jacket that may
be of interest to some of you. The first couple of pages were interesting but
the last 3 or 4 were VERY interesting. Lt. Donald C. Dammast was an officer
with the 134th Infantry stationed in Seattle, WA during 1942. He was mess
officer and in charge of the company fund for a while and the first couple
pages are orders about that but the last 3-4 pages are from his duty as
Transportation Officer. How these pages ended up away from the official files
will always be a mystery but may help a few of you now that they are back in
the light of day.
The October 11, 1942 Motor Vehicle Report (Changes) is about the vehicles
he must have been responsible for and contains chassis serial numbers, engine
serial number, U.S. registration number, and basic description info for each
vehicle. There are entries for 16 MB, 10 WC3/4/55, 10 WC56, 4 CCKW353 & 12
CAT (tractors?). Here are the serial numbers by model to see if yours is in
there and this might help:

CAT: 4R593, 7J8439, 7J8608, 7J8616, 7J8644, 7J8609, 8R1545, 8R1652, 8R1645
(No Years Given) 3 missing S/N had US Reg W-913301, W-913175, W-913174

The info may help someone or it might just be of interest to you for the
sake of seeing it. I find it really interesting myself and it points to
another good source to try and find your vehicle's markings. Unfortunately,
combing the National Archives collection of daily reports would be the same
as "needle in the haystack" but if you know any of the unit history
associated with your vehicle then it would narrow the search considerably. As
far as this info is concerned it is free to anyone that wants it; just send
me an SASE (self addressed stamped envelope) and I'll provide you with a
copy. Standard size envelope and one stamp will do it as the MV stuff is only
4 pages. My address is:

Hope this helps someone,
