You are correct in that the bore is already at .040 oversize. According to
the manuals, you can bore to .060. I have seen one engine taken to .080, but
I believe that is to far. You can sleeve your motor if it does not clean up
at .060. I have NOS sleeves for the engine which will bring you back to
standard size. Sleeves will run $10 ea. This may be a better option as
standard pistons and ring sets are much easier to obtain. Can't answer the
concerns about the serial numbers. Regards, John
