I have researched it a bit myself and have found similar info. However,
Production on the series was started in 1951, with the M135. The Army
received many copies to evaluate and their recommendations became the XM211.
M135 production ended in 1952 as the XM211 production geared up with all of
its variants, becoming standardized in 1954, as Brian said. I have heard
that many were shipped directly to Korea, to get them out of the states, as
the stateside commanders were much more fond of the M35 series. Many of the
remaining 211's were given to support units, reserves and guards. Even with
the troubles I've had with my 135, I still like the look of it, and one day,
maybe the driveablity of it too :-) By the way, I have never found out
what the starting production serial number was with the 135/211 series. I
have truck 998, built in November 1951. Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks,

The info I have found showed that this series of trucks were made from
1952-59 which is concurrent with some "Reo"production. I seems as though
the Reo was the preferred design. Most of these trucks never left the
Continental US, although some did see service in Korea as units deployed
there. This series was the first to use an automatic tranny in a mainline
truck and there are numerous opinions about it. Most everything since
has been a manual, I believe. Try Vermont Commercial Salvage in Burlington,
VT for parts. He's got a fairly large stock pile. Any other sources you
find, drop me a line please. According to the book I found, the 211 was
standardized in 1954.
