This posting is going our in behalf of a WWII military firefighter,
James Davis. who has written a history of his Engineer Firefighting
Platoon, and is seeking more info for an additional book on the subject.
He is in need of info on the Class 1020 trailer pump. This was used by
aviation engineer firefighting units. It seems that the USAF has no
historical interest in anything but airplanes. He has had no success in
obtaining info from their archives (They took over all the US Army Air
Corps info).
French mil book authors, Jean Michel Boniface and Jean Gabriel Jeudy,
in their excellent books, usually include info on military fire apparatus.
Jim would like to write them, as he has corrections on materiel they have
published, and would like to find out their sources of info. Does anybody
in the list have their addresses? Letters to their publishers have gone
unanswered.
In a related matter, the Brussels Tank Museum has been running ads for
collectors seeking information, and manual copies. Have any list readers
used their service? Has anyone used the US Army's Carlisle Barracks
archives for research?
We all like to read well written books and magazine articles, but they
cannot be written without help. Jim's address is <r11@maui.net>
