Hey Bob,
The A/N (Army/Navy) VRC (Vehicular Radio Control) 47 is one of sevral
configurations of the AN/VRC 12 series of radios to be installed in
M151s and other MVs. The Radio Set AN/VRC 47 consisted of the RT-524/VRC
in the MT-1029 (mount) and the R-442/VRC in the MT-1898/VRC. This set up
allowed for one net to be monitored on the reciever R-442 while
operating in a different net using the reciever-transmitter RT-524 . If
the RT-246 were used instead of the 524 the system became the AN/VRC-12,
the 246 allowed 10 preset channels. The AN/VRC series radios could
handle any FM need just by adding or removing components. Some
references are TC 11-4 Handbook for AN/VRC-12 Series of Radio Sets,
TM 11-5820-401-10-1 Operators Manuel for Radio Sets AN/VRC-12 ect.,
TM 11-5820-401-10-2 Operators Manual for Radio Sets AN/VRC-12 ect.,
Training Film 11-3305 AN/VRC-12, older copies of FM 24-18 and TC 24-19.
Some of these can be found on line at www.atsc-army.org/atdls.html.
Just in case anyone is wondering PRC = Personnel Radio Control, GRC =
Ground Radio Control.
