I always like the 12 with the push button resets and would mount two
recievers/transmitters with an aux. Remember mission was for most in my
mind as a commander. I wanted the ability to monitor and receive on the
battalion command net, my company command net, and the ability to
monitor at will my platoon leader's nets as well as an adjoining company
commanders frequencies and on occasions the adjoining battalion command
net. This means that a CO's jeep needed considerable radio assets. In
addition I mounted remote speakers and remote boxes from M113s on the
dash of the jeep so that mikes could be mounted and the pushbutton
controls from the 12 could be changed from the dash without accessing
the rear of the jeep.
I also made similar modifications of my Command track. I mounted a
remote box in the cargo hatch of the M113 so that I could control the
radios from the hatch and use a CVC from that location. Remember my
function was to command the company, not fight the 50 cal on the track,
I had a sgt to perform that function.
