I would appreciate anyone's help in this forum on this subject. I have
been looking for a Kaiser Jeep M715 for about two years now. Yesterday,
while at a military surplus store, I found out that the owner had a 1967
M715 that he had recently purchased from the GSA. He wants $4500 for the
vehicle.
I will describe the vehicle in detail to you. What I would like to know from
you is if you feel that the asking price is fair. If there is any other
information that you require, please contact me. I would appreciate ANY help
that you could provide me on this vehicle
BODY: The vehicle in question was stripped down to the primer and repainted
in olive drab. This paint job was accomplished with a air gun by a amatuer.
The vehicle had been owned by the forestry service here in Wyoming. There
has been no
modification to the body at all with the exception
of a small 2.5" hole in the cab, immediately behind the passenger side door
which I suspect is where a antenna was located.
It is missing the grill panel which should be located immediately in
front of the radiator. The brush guard is present and in very good shape.
The window rubber is severely cracked and in some places has large pieces
gone and was in places painted over. The weather stripping around the door
edges is severely cracked and has long strips missing. The plates that
should be located between the floor and bottom of the door are missing. The
cab is a soft top
version with top canvas and seating canvas in good shape. It has the
original, fully functioning instrument panel. The truck bed has not been
modified (cut) in any way and is in good shape
with no rust visible inside the bed and very little velveteen rust on the
bottom in places. There are a few minor dents and dings on the body panel
parts on the
front half of the vehicle and some on the rear fenders. The tires are
mounted on the original wheels and have good tread and minimal minor surface
cracking. There is no spare tire mount which should be located on the
passenger side of the truck bed. All lights function normally. The fuel
filler tube has minor surface cracking.
DRIVETRAIN: The drivetrain is all original. The rear gearcase seal is
leaking quite visibly as there is a thick coat of gear oil on the lower half
of the housing.
ENGINE: The powerplant is the original Kaiser Jeep 230 Tornado engine which
seems to run well. There might be a little leakage of oil around the oil pan
seal. It has the original 24 volt power system. The odometer reads 12,900
miles (?).
FRAME: The frame has no cracks in it and very little velveteen rust on it.
It is straight and has had no modifications done to it. There is no winch on
the vehicle. The grommets and other rubber products on the underneath of the
vehicle are in bad condition as they are probably all original products.
If anyone can help me in assessing a reasonable assessment of worth for this
vehicle I would be most thankful. Also if there is any other information
that anyone would require before rendering a judgment on this vehicle...just
send me your questions and I will be glad to send you the answers to them.
