[MV] Split Rims / Tire Talk

All this talk of split rims and
faster trucks leads me to three
comments:

1) I recently purchased a Deuce
1/2, and about the only thing I'm
wary of is those split rims! One
change I've made is to add tire
valve extensions (such as those for
RVs) to the inner duals. That way I
can clip on the inflation hose, play
out 10-15' of air hose connected
directly to my air compressor, then
slowly increase the air pressure to
the recommended 50 PSIG. Thirty
minutes later I unclip the air hose,
put the valve cap back on, and I'm
done. Maybe I'm being paranoid
here, but it makes me feel better.

By the way, some are showing some
moderate to severe tire rot. You
can be sure those are on my
Christmas list!

2) In all the discussions on split
rims over the past several years,
I've never seen any mention of
replacement non-split rims for large
vehicles like deuces. I assume they
would make these for a 9.00 x 20
tire size - is the cost just too
prohibitive to do this?

3) Another key point I haven't seen
in the thread on making "slow"
military vehicles go faster is tire
speed ratings. Even if I had all
the suspension & brake tricks, and
10 brand new tires, I'd still like
to know what the maximum speed
rating on military NDT tires is. I
checked one a spare B.F. Goodrich
NDT tire tonight and didn't see any
ratings (unlike passenger car
tires), but I'd bet it isn't 80 MPH!
