They most often put the wheel under the frame of a heavy truck before they
added airpressure. Some times they would park one of the truck's wheels
directly on top of the wheel being fitted with a tire. I had one old GI
mechanic tell me that they didn't have the long filler attachments for their
aircompressors most of the time so if they were right handed they used their
left hand to hold the air nozzle and vice-versa. just in case.
