Don't keep the choke on full for 5 minutes. Back the choke off gradually to keep the plugs from fouling. You may have already fouled them. Don't set the hand throttle unles you are using it for PTO applications. As for lead additive, that is a whole other debate. My opinion is that the valves will wear slightly faster without lead. If you get some additive in every now and then it would help them last longer. Check your motor and transmission mounts. Some shaking is normal. The rings may be stuck or the carb is gummed up if you jeep is still smoking after it is warmed up and the choke is off.

It started and ran rough and made lots (and LOTS and LOTS) of rich fuely smoke. I ran it for less that five minutes and put the choke and throttle back in afet it seemed like it would stay running. (no experience with a choke or throttle) The smoke did not seem do go away, but the car has not been run in a couple years and perhaps that will go away after a good long drive?

Is this normal in these old Jeeps or has something serious come loose?
