OK all, thanks for the interest in it. I'll take some pictures of it (and
draw up a diagram too) over the next few days, and announce it when I've put
it up. It really works! Looking at it now, perhaps the ballrace was
overkill, and rotating surface would do. I just wanted to prevent any
rotating surface pressing on the oil seal. The most expensive piece was
the threaded rod (two dollars), but a long bolt would do just as well.
I made it after wrecking a few new seals - one I didn't hammer in properly
and it twisted, and the other went in fine but when I withdrew the drift,
I noticed the tension spring from the inside of the seal had come off and
landed on the drift. I didn't want to wreck a third seal!
