RE [MV] Chevy 216 upgrade question

I am not sure about the exact fitting in in a Canadian MV, but in the US civy
and MIL Chevrolet, the later 235 engine is a much beter engine. It is also more
powerful. The same engine up thru 1962 will bolt in. The only difference may be
in the fron motor mount. Later Chevy engines used a side mount instead of the
under the timing chain mount. I have installed later motors and have had good
luck. If, IF you can find a Chevy 261, that would be the ideal replacement. You
can tell the 261 because the oil filter that hangs on the intake manifold had 2
large hosed foing to it. The size of hydraulic hoses. This external dilter is a
full flow oil filter. It also has 158 hp ad opposed to 90 in the original 261.
Later chevrolet engines have the water pump mounted lower on the engine. In
addition, the fan sticks forward more. There are special pumps you can buy to
correct this. This could be a problem with a fan shroud.
Hope this helps
Dr Deuce
PS. If you have the length up front, a GMC engine will bolt right in except for
the front motor mount. The GMC is 1.5" longer.
Speed kills: The older engines WILL NOT stand to be over reved. It is quite
common for a Chevy to throw conn rod #1...
