Here's the story of my problem. My recently acquired M38A1 was not
getting fire to the spark plugs. It had civilian wires and plugs.
Replaced the wires and plugs with military. Checked juice to
distributor. I was getting electric to the distributor. I replaces the
coil with one I had. Getting electric to the coil. I put new points and
a new condenser. Checked the cap. Ok now getting fire to the plugs.
Really cool. I put some gas in the tank after cleaning it out. Check the
fuel pump to make sure it is pumping fuel. Yes. Pour a little gas in the
carb and fire it up. Runs great. I didn't time it but really sounded and
ran really good. Idled real well. I took it for a spin. It was running
great. I was coming back to the driveway and it died. I got it back in
the garage and took the spark plug out grounded it to the block again.
No spark. No fire. It looks like I am back to the original problem.
Question : Is something shorting that condenser or condenser out? Can
the condenser short out? I tried a different coil and still no fire. The
new points I put in are clean. The original distributor wire from the
switch is no longer used. It is a civilian wire. Would this have
something to do with it not firing? .What does it sound like to you all?
Why again no fire to the plugs. Thanks.
