I had the opportunity to spend some time talking with the First Sgt. of the
local VTANG Armor company recently. The conversation turned to the dueces( M35
's) and other large trucks currently in use. I asked if the local ones that I
seldom see move had been throught the upgrade cycle to the A2, etc level. He
said they were still set up as multifuel because they no longer even used
diesel in they. Their fuel for all tanks and trucks is now exclusively JP-8._
He said switching to JP-8 from diesel caused lots of initial filter changes
and headaches because of rust and sediment being broken loose and flushed
through the fuel system. Now they have no problems at all.
My question is whether this is an Army wide thing and what changes needed if
any that would need done to recently surplused duece or 5 ton to run diesel
only again?
Can anyone tell me the differences between JP-8, K1 kersene, and #1 or 2
diesel?
